What the selected cover represents
The final cover gives The Melbourne Portraits Project a public face after readers considered five alternatives. A cover must work at several distances. It has to attract attention, carry the character of the photographs inside, and remain legible as both a printed object and a small digital image.
The vote also made the audience part of the book’s journey. That participation reflects the project itself, which grew from encounters with people, places, and creative communities across Melbourne.
