On Saturday, February 6, hundreds of protesters gathered in Melbourne to voice their support for Myanmar’s democratically elected government, wearing the red colour of the National League for Democracy (NLD) and carrying portraits of detained leader Aung San Suu Kyi. The Australian government should raise its voice on the world stage, as well as introduce targeted sanctions against the Myanmar military.
Myanmar military declaring a state of emergency and handling the power of government without the order of President U Win Myint is illegal. Internet and phone services have been disrupted to hide how the Myanmar citizens and the international community respond to this action. Please stand with the people of Myanmar and voice out in any way you can to stop this inhumane action.
Don’t let the world forget about the 53 million people in Myanmar.
